Little Clinic to open medical kiosks in Publix stores

The Little Clinic LLC, a company that operates medical clinics staffed by nurse practitioners, has signed an agreement to begin opening clinics at Publix Super Markets.

Currently, all of The Little Clinic locations are within Kroger stores in Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois.

Under the agreement with Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix Super Markets Inc. — one of the largest grocery chains in the Southeast — Louisville-based Little Clinic will have the exclusive right to open medical clinics within Publix stores, according to a news release.

The first clinics will be located in the Miami, Orlando and Tampa markets in the first half of 2006.

As Business First reported in November, officials with The Little Clinic plan have said their plans for growth will focus on expanding operations in Florida and the Southeast.

Currently, the company has seven clinics in space its leases from The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR). The clinics operate from kiosks, typically located in stores with pharmacies.

The clinics offer general care for ailments and minor injuries and are open seven days a week. Most services cost less than $50.

Publix (OTCB: PUSH) owns and operates 875 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
