New kiosks help plan bus trips

Experts say the high cost of gas is one big reason more people are taking the bus to work and now there’s another good reason to think about taking the bus. On Wednesday the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority unveiled their new trip-planning kiosk at the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation’s office at 120 Main Street.

Riders can simply punch in where they want to go and the kiosk spits out a trip itinerary with directions and a map.

RGRTA CEO Mark Aesch says it’s just one more way to make riding the bus a pleasant experience. “We believe that putting these kiosks in place and putting that information in place and even closer to our customer is going to allow us to continue to attract more folks.”

RGRTA will add two more kiosks, which cost $6,000.00 each, in the Rochester area in the coming months. Eventually, RGRTA will add ten a year with one at the Port of Rochester for fast ferry passengers.
