Multi-airline baggage check-in soon

Airline passengers in Mumbai will soon be able to check-in with their baggage before they even get to the airport. ‘Check-in here’ kiosks will be launched at various hotels, malls, petrol pumps and other public places in the city.

The new system will provide facilities for multi-airline check-in, allotment of boarding passes and baggage acceptance services at off-airport locations.

Each airline will then customise the kiosk according to their requirements.

This new system follows in the footsteps of Air-India’s Advance Check-in Facility, started earlier this month, at its Nariman Point headquarters.

The national carrier has put up two check-in counters, which provide facilities for an individual passenger, or a passenger on behalf of a group, to check-in at the city check-in facility.

The plan for check-in kiosks across the city is a welcome development.

“With airlines and flights increasing manifold and given the poor infrastructure at our airports, check-in counters outside the airport are a good idea.

Thanks to this, the passengers will not have to stand in long queues. They will be able to just walk-in to the airport and board the flight,” said an aviation expert.
