McTechnology: Fast foodie testing tech kiosks
Would you like a new ringtone with those fries? At the McDonald’s in the Oakbrook Center Mall in Chicago, you can order both. The restaurant is the site of McDonald’s latest experiment—offering high-tech services along with the usual Big Macs. Testing of Blaze Net, an ATM-like device that allows customers to download ringtones, buy music, burn CDs and even create digital photo prints, began when the Oakbrook location opened Monday. After the initial 60- to 90-day test period is completed, the testing will extend to other locations, probably in Florida and West Virginia. The device is part of a larger effort by the fast food chain to attract younger and hipper clientele.
